Box Score Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's soccer team secured its spot in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament on Monday (Oct. 31) afternoon, defeating the visiting Saint Mary's Belles,4-0, on Senior Day at Scotland Yard. Senior Macayla Greiner (Hart, Mich./Hart) tallied two goals and an assist in the win, while junior Whitnee Foote (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./Mt. Pleasant) had a pair of assists as the Scots posted their fourth clean sheet of the season.
The game also marked the final home appearance for Alma's eight seniors - Jessica Burg, Megan Kalanik, Macayla Greiner, Lindsey Lloyd, Kayla Linstruth, Lily Slavin, Fallon Koenig and Kolette Sherry.
Alma struck in the sixth minute when senior Jessica Burg (Grand Ledge, Mich./Grand Ledge) finished off a crossing pass from Greiner. The Scots made it 2-0 in the 20th minute when Greiner scored off of a pass from Foote and entered the halftime break up by a pair of goals.
Greiner added another marker in 50th minute on a shot across the box to make it 3-0 after taking a midfield pass from Linstruth, while junior Ashley Bonam (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) scored in the 78th minute on a rebound off of a shot by Foote.
Junior Kelsey Postema (Marshall, Mich./Marshall) and freshman Emma Vrooman (Farmington Hills, Mich./Harrison) shared the shutout, with Postema stopping the only shot she faced while Vrooman made two saves as the Scots outshot the Belles, 31-6.
Alma will now face the top seed in the MIAA Tournament, Kalamazoo College, on Thursday, Nov. 3, in Kalamazoo. The time of the game is to be announced.
