Angola, Ind. - The Alma College women's soccer team remained in control of the final spot for the MIAA Tournament, coming from behind to defeat Trine University, 2-1, on Saturday (Oct. 29) at Weaver Field. Alma (8-5-4 overall, 7-4-4 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) snapped a two-game losing streak with the victory to remain tied for fourth place in the MIAA with one game remaining.

The Scots, with 25 points in league play, are currently tied with Albion College, but Alma holds the tiebreaker over the Britons by virtue of a 1-0-1 record in head-to-head competition during the season.

Alma overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit with two markers in the final 45 minutes and outshot the Thunder, 17-10.

Trine struck first in the 25th minute after Morgan Sanderson scored after a long run. The goal came less than two minutes after junior Ashley Bonam (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) had a penalty kick opportunity that was stopped by Thunder goalie Kristina Veljovic.

Senior Macayla Greiner (Hart, Mich./Hart) tied the game in the 47th minute after she took a pass in front of the goal from junior Taylor Roberts (Jackson, Mich./Northwest). Junior Whitnee Foote (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./Mt. Pleasant) added the game winning goal, scoring off of her own rebound in the 60th minute.

Junior Kelsey Postema (Marshall, Mich./Marshall) stopped seven shots, including six after the Thunder scored, to get the win for Alma.

The Scots will close out the regular season on Monday, Oct. 31, hosting Saint Mary's College for a 3:00 p.m. contest at Scotland Yard. A win by Alma will put the Scots into the MIAA Tournament.
