Women's soccer falls to Hope, 4-1

Box Score

Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's soccer team saw its school-record tying eight-game unbeaten streak end on Saturday (Oct. 22) with a 4-1 loss to visiting Hope College at Scotland Yard. Despite their first setback since September 17, the Scots (7-4-4 overall, 6-3-4 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) remain in the hunt for the MIAA Tournament with three games remaining in the regular season.

The game was also the annual Kick it to Cancer game for Alma, which wore special pink jerseys and even had the lines on the game field painted pink to raise awareness for the various forms of cancer that have affected friends and family of the team and coaching staff.

Hope (11-3-2, 10-2-2 MIAA) got on the board first when Allie Wittenbach scored in the second minute, but the Scots responded in the 10th minute when senior Macayla Greiner (Hart, Mich./Hart) tapped in a rebound off of a shot sent in by freshman Lexi Moyer (Suttons Bay, Mich./Traverse City West) to tie the game.

The Dutch added three goals in the second half, including a pair by Elizabeth Perkins, who had two goals and two assists in the game, factoring on all of Hope's scores.

Junior goalkeeper Kelsey Postema (Marshall, Mich./Marshall) stopped eight shots for Alma which had five shots on goal compared to Hope's 12.

Alma will take to the road for its next two games, starting on Wednesday, Oct. 26, with a 4:00 p.m. contest at Calvin College.
