Box Score Olivet, Mich.- The Alma College Women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to seven games on Saturday (Oct. 15) afternoon when it beat Olivet College 4-3 in double overtime. Junior Kaylynne Perian (Livonia, Mich./Franklin) scored in the 109th minute to give the Scots the victory.
Alma (7-3-3 overall, 6-2-3 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) outshot the Comets 26-23, including 14 shots on goal. Senior Megan Kalanik (Milford, Mich./Lakeland) led the Scots with two goals and kept the Comets goalkeeper busy with nine shots total, including four on net.
Alma took a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play when Kalanik scored her sixth goal of the season, unassisted. Olivet tied up the game in the 26th minute before Kalanik scored again, this time in the 34th minute off an assist by freshman Lexi Moyer (Suttons Bay, Mich./Traverse City West) to enter the half with a 2-1 lead.
Olivet (8-6-1, 6-5-1 MIAA) scored twice to open the second half and gained a 3-2 advantage in the 50th minute before senior Jessica Burg (Grand Ledge, Mich./Grand Ledge) scored her third goal of the season, a long and unassisted kick from 30 yards away to tie the game a 3-3 in the 60th minute.
The game went into double overtime, with the Scots and the Comets tied 3-3 for nearly an hour. The tie broke in the 109th minute when Perian sent the ball into the top right corner and scored her first goal of the season with an assist credited to Burg.
Junior goalie Kelsey Postema (Marshall, Mich./Marshall) racked up eight saves on 11 shots from the Comets.
The Scots return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 18, when they travel to Kalamazoo College to take on the Hornets. The game is set to start at 7:00 p.m.
