Box Score South Bend, Ind. - The Alma College women's soccer team wrapped up the first half of play in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association on Saturday (Oct. 1) afternoon, defeating Saint Mary's College by a 5-0 margin. With the victory, the Scots (5-3-2 overall, 4-2-2- MIAA) extended their unbeaten streak to four games and are now 2-0-2 over since September 24.
Senior Megan Kalanik (Milford, Mich./Lakeland) had two goals and an assist for her second straight multi-goal game, while junior Whitnee Foote (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./Mt. Pleasant) scored a pair of markers as Alma outshot the Belles by a 21-9 margin.
Senior Macayla Greiner (Hart, Mich./Hart) opened the scoring on a breakaway in the second minute after taking a pass from senior Jessica Burg (Grand Ledge, Mich./Grand Ledge). Kalanik scored her first goal in the 14th minute to five the Scots a 2-0 lead at the half, finishing a shot that went inside the left post.
In the second half, Alma scored three times in less than 12 minutes. Foote posted back-to-back markers in the 49th and 55th minutes, first scoring off a pass from senior Kayla Linstruth (Royal Oak, Mich./Royal Oak) before knocking in a rebound goal off of her own shot.
Kalanik completed the scoring in the 57th minute on a one-timer from Greiner.
Junior Kelsey Postema (Marshall, Mich./Marshall) stopped all four shots on goal she faced for her second clean sheet of the season.
The Scots will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 8, hosting Albion College for an 11:00 a.m. game as part of Homecoming festivities on the campus of Alma College.
