Box Score Kalamazoo, Mich. - The Alma College women's basketball team fell in their fifth Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association game today (Jan. 9), 73-69 against the Kalamazoo College Hornets in the Anderson Athletic Center.
Junior Kaitlyn Kendall (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) led for the Scots with 16 points, her second consecutive game of scoring in the double digits. Guzman brought in team high eight rebounds matching her season high.
Alma trailed at the start of the first quarter but then freshman Sophie Guzman (Grand Ledge, Mich./Grand Ledge) made a lay up to tie the game 15-15, followed by another lay up from junior Tara Padgett (Freeland, Mich./Freeland) to propel the Scots forward giving them their first lead at 17-15 with 3:58 left to play in the first quarter.
The Scots continued to lead the majority of the second quarter but they saw their largest seven point lead slip away in the final seconds heading in to halftime with the scored tied 37-37 against the Hornets.
Alma led by 10, 51-41 with 5:32 left to play in the third quarter after a made triple from Guzman, and the Scots went in to the fourth quarter with the 59-51 lead over the Hornets. Kalamazoo came back in the final 10 minutes of play outscoring Alma 22-10 ultimately defeating the Scots 73-69.
Senior Raeanna Zink (Frankenmuth, Mich./Frankenmuth) posted 12 points, freshman Kassidy Blough (Jackson, Mich./East Jackson) added 11 and Guzman and Padgett chipped in 10 points a piece.
Alma shot 40.6% from the field but Kalamazoo out shot the Scots shooting 51.1%. Alma finished with 16 assists, five of which came from Blough reaching a season high.
Alma will stay on the road as they travel to Olivet, Mich. to play the Olivet College Comets on Wednesday (Jan. 13). Tip-off time is set for 6:00 p.m.
GAME NOTES:
- This is the second consecutive game Kendall has posted double digit's in scoring.
- Kassidy Blough tied a season high of five assists.
- This is the first game of the 2015-16 campaign that five Scots have scored in double digits.
