Women's Soccer Suffers 6-1 Defeat at Calvin

Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Alma College women's soccer team suffered their third straight defeat on Saturday (Sept. 26) afternoon, falling by a 6-1 margin to host Calvin College at Zeidema Field. Senior Agatha Weddle (White Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Northern) was the lone goal-scorer for the Scots (2-6 overall, 1-5 MIAA), while the Knights (8-2 overall, 6-0 MIAA) remained one of two undefeated teams in league play.

Calvin got on the board early in the match when Paige Capel scored in the sixth minute, and took a 2-0 lead in the 13th minute after a goal by Taylor TenHarmsel. Weddle cut the deficit in half in the 30th minute to go into halftime down 2-1.

In the second half, four straight goals by Calvin sealed the victory for the Knights. Calvin outshot Alma by a 26-10 margin, with sophomore keeper Kelsey Postema (Marshall, Mich./Marshall) making seven saves in the losing effort.

The Scots remain on the road and will travel to Angola, Ind., to face Trine University on Tuesday, Sept. 29. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Weaver Soccer Field on the Trine campus.
