Women's LAX loses MIAA 13-7 contest at Albion College on Tuesday night

Box Score

On Tuesday night, the Alma College Women's Lacrosse team traveled to rival Albion College to take on the Britons in an MIAA contest. Albion jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back en route to a 13-7 victory over the Scots.

With the loss, Alma fell to 2-1 in the MIAA and 3-8 overall this season, while the Britons improved to 2-0 in the league and 8-1 for the 2015 season.

Albion scored three goals in 4:13 of the first half to take a 3-0 lead as the Britons' Mackenzie Novak scored a pure hat trick. The Scots responded with a goal by Sr. M Tracy Gallihugh (Lansing/Waverly) less than two minutes later and Jr. D Emily Reverman (Grand Ledge/Grand Ledge) cut the deficit to 3-2 at the 19:46 mark of the first frame.

The Britons made it a 5-2 game at 12:10 before Alma Sr. M Sydney Bryce (Lake Orion/Lake Orion) cut it to 5-3 just 15 seconds later. That is how the score would remain until Albion scored two goals in the final 56 seconds of the half to take a 7-3 advantage into the break.

The second half didn't get much better for the Scots as the Britons took a 10-3 advantage at the 20:54 mark. Alma finally broke Albion's string of five consecutive goals when So. A Kaitlyn Urick (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbrand West) tallied at 20:20. Jr. A Ashton Street (Brighton/Brighton) followed with a goal at 18:59 to make it a 10-5 game.

However, the hometown Britons squashed any Alma rally by scoring the next two goals - at 16:51 and 13:45 - to regain a seven goal cushion at 12-5. The Scots did not quit however, and Street tallied two more goals, at 5:22 and 1:22, to cut the deficit to 12-7 as the clock wound down on the night.

But, Alma could not get any closer and Albion added a garbage goal with just two seconds remaining to make it a 13-7 final score.

Street finished the night with three goals, three assists, eight shots on goal and four groundballs for the Scots. So. GK Miranda Kruse (Ann Arbor/Ann Arbor Pioneer) made eight saves in net for Alma in a losing effort.

Alma continues their season on Saturday when they travel to Olivet to take on the Comets. Start time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
