Scots Women's Lacrosse drop a thriller 6-5 at Kalamazoo to end the 2015 season

The Alma College Women's Lacrosse team hit the road Saturday afternoon, traveling to Kalamazoo to take on the Hornets in the last regular season game of the 2015 season.

It was a  close back-and-forth game but the Scots ended the regular season on a negative note, as they lost a heartbreaker 7-6 in the final seconds of regulation. Alma's record fell to 5-11 on the season and 4-4 in the MIAA while Kalamazoo improved to 6-8 overall and 4-4 in the MIAA.

Alma took the first lead of the game quickly, as So. Kaitlyn Urick (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbrand West) scored at the 27:52 mark. Alma increased its lead at the 25:35 mark, when Sr. Tracy Gallihugh (Marshall/Marshall) found the back of the net to bring the score to 2-0.

Kalamazoo tied the game quickly at 2-2 after two-consecutive goals with 24:03 left in the first half.

Alma took the lead for the second time of the game as Gallihugh notched two-straight goals to give the Scots the 4-2 lead with 15:05 left in the first half.

The Hornets retaliated with three-consecutive goals to end the first half with the 5-4 lead.

Alma wasn't ready to give up yet, as it scored the first two goals of the second half. Gallihugh got the first one at 27:37, and  Urick followed with another off an assist by Gallihugh to bring the score to 6-5 with 23:42 left to play in the second.

Kalamazoo tied the game up at 6-6 with 12:05 left to play in regulation.  There were three shot attempts from Gallihugh in the final minutes but none were able to find the back of the net. With the game looking destine for overtime, Kalamazoo scored with only 15 seconds left to take the 7-6 victory.

Gallihugh led Alma with four goals to go along with one assist. Urick had the other two goals and grabbed two ground balls. So. Ali Holmquist (Canton/Plymouth) and Gallihugh had two draw controls a piece, while  Jr. Ashton Street (Brighton/Brighton) led the team with three groundballs.

In net, So. GK Miranda Kruse (Ann Arbor/Ann Arbor Pioneer) got the loss to end season with a 5-11 record.
