Gallihugh nets 10, Scots Women's LAX defeat Adrian 20-6 on Senior Day

With family and friends in the stands to support, the Alma College Women's Lacrosse team celebrated Senior Day on Thursday by welcoming Adrian College to Bahlke Field. In her final home game wearing the maroon and cream, Sr. MF Tracy Gallihugh (Lansing/Waverly) went off for 10 goals to lead the Scots to the 20-6 victory at Bahlke Field.

With the win, Alma improves to 5-10 overall and 4-3 in conference play to keep its chances to make the MIAA Tournament alive with just one game remaining. The Bulldogs drop to 0-11 on the year and 0-7 in league play with the loss.

Gallihugh made it a point to go out with a bang on Thursday, scoring four-straight goals to put Alma up 4-0 with just under 21 minutes to play in the first half.

At 19:57, Jr. A Ashton Street (Brighton/Brighton) found Sr. MF Sydney Bryce (Lake Orion/Lake Orion) for a goal, before Jr. MF Mallory Simon (Grand Rapids/Forest Hills Northern) would score unassisted to extend the Scots advantage to 6-0 at 18:30.

Street would collect a goal at 17:17, before the Bulldogs would put one on the board to make the score 7-1 with just over 14 minutes to play in the half.

Alma then scored four-straight goals, two by Gallihugh and one each for Bryce and Simon, to extend the lead to 11-1 at 10:35.

Adrian ended the half with two-unanswered goals to bring the score to 11-3 after the first 30 minutes.

In the first ten minutes of the second half, Gallihugh would net three more, while Street and Simon both collected a goal to make the score 16-3 with 20 minutes left to play in regulation.

The visitors would score the next two to make it 16-5, before Simon scored her fourth and fifth goals on the afternoon to stretch the lead to 18-5 at 12:40.

Gallihugh then notched her 10th goal of the game at 6:25 to put Alma on top 19-5.

Following an Adrian goal at 5:06, Fr. A Shelby Frazer (Holt/Holt) would cap off the game with a goal off an assist by Street to give the Scots the 20-6 victory at home.

Gallihugh led all players with 10 goals, just two shy of her MIAA record of 12 that she set last season against St. Mary's College (IN).  Simon added five goals, while Street chipped in two goals to go along with a team-high three assists and eight groundballs.

In net, So. GK Miranda Kruse (Ann Arbor/Ann Arbor Pioneer) improved to 5-10 on the year after making one save on seven shots.

The Scots forced 22 turnovers and scooped 32 groundballs compared to just nine by the Bulldogs.

Alma ends the regular season on Saturday, April 25, one the road at Kalamazoo College in a game set to start at 1:00 p.m.
