Scots Women's Lacrosse falls 12-8 at Calvin on Friday

Coming off two-straight losses against MIAA opponents, the Alma College Women's Lacrosse team looked to get back on track as they traveled to take on Calvin College at Zuidema Field on Friday evening. Despite a big game by Jr. A Ashton Street (Brighton/Brighton), the Scots would drop the 12-8 decision to the Knights on the road.

With the loss, Alma is now 3-10 on the year and 2-3 in league play. Calvin improved to 8-5 overall behind a 5-0 mark in conference action with the victory.

Street would put the first point on the board, scoring on a free position shot to put Alma up 1-0 at 27:42.

The Knights would score two-straight goals, before Sr. MF Sydney Bryce (Lake Orion/Lake Orion) knotted the score at 2-2 off an assist by Fr. A Shelby Frazer (Holt/Holt).

Street would then give the Scots the lead back, finding the back of the net unassisted at 21:30.

The home team would knot the score at 3-3, before So. A Kaitlyn Urick (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbrand West) would ring the bell at 16:46 off a helper by Street to put Alma up 4-3.

Calvin would score the next four goals to go up 7-4 with just over five minutes to play in the first half.

With 4:43 remaining, Sr. A Tracy Gallihugh (Lansing/Waverly) would the deficit to 7-5 and the score remained that way after the first 30 minutes of action.

Bryce would net another goal at 25:34, before an unassisted goal by Jr. MF Mallory Simon (Grand Rapids/Forest Hills Northern) would knot the score at 7-7 with just under 20 minutes to play.

Following two Calvin scores, Street would complete the hat trick, scoring her third goal of the evening to cut the deficit to 9-8 with just under 12 minutes remaining.

The home team would close out the game by scoring three-unanswered goals to hand the Scots their third-straight loss, 12-8.

Street led Alma with three goals to go along with one assist and a team-high four draw controls. Bryce chipped in two goals, while Frazer recorded one assist.

In goal, So. GK Miranda Kruse (Ann Arbor/Ann Arbor Pioneer) dropped to 3-9 on the year after making 10 saves on 22 shots on goal.

Alma returns to Bahlke Field on Tuesday, April 21, welcoming Saint Mary's College (IN) for a game at 5:00 p.m.
