Box Score

The Alma College Women's Basketball team continued their conference portion of the schedule on Wednesday evening, traveling to the Anderson Athletic Center to take on Kalamazoo College. Despite holding an early lead, the Scots would fall to the host Hornets 68-51 on the road.

The loss is the third straight for Alma, dropping the Scots to 7-14 overall and 2-10 in the MIAA. Kalamazoo improves to 13-7 with an 8-4 mark in conference play with the victory.

"Great start to our game, but we were unable to sustain that level of play," remarked Scots Head Coach Kris Johnson. "After our great beginning, mental breakdowns began to occur and Kalamazoo is too good not to take advantage of it. We need to figure out how to play with a lead and make adjustments. It was great having Erica Hansen back on the floor with Kassidi Adams, after they both missed time with injuries."

Jr. G Mallory Pruett (Ishpeming/Ishpeming) started off hot for Alma to begin the game, recording five early points to help the Scots take the 11-4 lead at 16:05.

Alma would remain in front for the next nine minutes, before the Hornets would grab the lead for the first time at 18-17 with just over seven minutes left to go in the first half.

The home team would close out the half on a 9-3 run to head into the locker rooms up 29-20.

Kalamazoo kept the momentum rolling in the second half, stringing eleven-straight points together to extend the lead to 20, 40-20, with 17:30 remaining in regulation.

The Scots would try and claw their way back, scoring nine-consectutive points to cut the deficit to 63-48 at the 3:40 mark.

Despite Alma's best efforts, the Hornets proved too much at home and Kalamazoo got the 68-51 victory.

Pruett notched a double-double for the Scots on Wednesday, finishing the game with 10 points and ten rebounds.  Sr. G Grace Wheeler (St. Ignace/LaSalle) chipped in eight points and seven rebounds, while Fr. G Lauren Higgins (Sterling Heights/Cardinal Mooney Catholic) added four points and six boards off the bench.

Alma had a tough night shooting the ball, finishing the game shooting 17-of-58 (29.3%) from the floor and 2-of-13 (15.4%) from beyond the arc. The Scots won the rebounding battle 44-36, thanks to six players recording three or more boards.

The Scots will welcome Olivet College to the Art Smith Arena on Saturday, Feb. 7, for a game set to start at 3:00 p.m. Saturday will be a "Pink Game" with all proceeds going to the Angel Wing Foundation, in memory of former Scots Head Coach Keisha Brown.
