Box Score South Bend, Ind. - The Alma College women's soccer team closed out the 2015 campaign on Monday (Nov. 2) afternoon with a 3-1 victory over the Saint Mary's College Belles. Three different Scots scored in the win as Alma finished the year with a 7-2-1 mark in its final 10 matches.
Saint Mary's (2-15-1 overall, 2-13-1 MIAA) got on the board first, scoring in the 14th minute when Lindsay Rzepecki knocked the ball past freshman keeper Becca Gamble (Midland, Mich./Dow). The Belles would take the lead into the half before Alma explored for three unanswered goals in a 10-minute period during the second half to secure the victory.
Junior Jessica Burg (Grand Ledge, Mich./Grand Ledge) tied the match at 1-1 in the 72nd minute, tapping in a loose ball in the box to score for the second straight game, before junior Megan Kalanik (Milford, Mich./Lakeland) scored just over six minutes later, placing the ball just under the bar in the 78th minute for the game-winner.
Senior Lyndsey Malson (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Catholic Central) finished the match with a one-timer from senior Bryn Kittle (Rockford, Ill./Rockford Christian). Mason recorded her first career goal and assist while playing in her final match for the Scots.
Alma outshot the Belles by a 19-12 margin, including 13-2 in the second half. Gamble and sophomore Kelsey Postema (Marshall, Mich./Marshall) split time in net, with Gambe making four saves.
The Scots finished the season with a 9-8-1 overall record, including an 8-7-1 mark in MIAA play to finish with a winning record for the eighth straight season.
Alma will graduate 12 seniors from the program, including senior Kelly Wilson (Midland, Mich./Dow) who tied for the team lead with 16 points on five goals and six assists. The Scots are expected to return five of their top six point-getters from this season when they gather for the 2016 campaign.
