Box Score Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's soccer team fought back from a two-goal deficit to force extra time, but fell to the league-leading Calvin Knights, 4-3, in the 105th minute at Scotland Yard Tuesday (Oct. 27) afternoon. Senior Allysen Neumann (Greenville, Mich./Greenville) scored two goals for the Scots (7-8-1 overall, 6-7-1 MIAA), including the game-tying goal to force the extra session in the first Pink Game.
Calvin (15-2-1, 13-0-1) took a 2-0 lead with two markers from Paige Capel, who scored in the ninth and 49th minutes en route to a hat trick.
With the match slipping away, Neumann scored her first goal of the season in the 56th minute, netting the ball on a free kick 26 yards out. Senior Agatha Weddle (White Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Northern) scored three minutes later in the 59th minute after she received the ball from a free kick from senior Allison Smith (Commerce Township, Mich./Walled Lake Northern) to make the score 2-2.
The Knights regained the lead at 3-2 in the 71st minute when Capel completed the hat trick, then Neumann tied the game again in the 81st minute, scoring on a free kick from 18 yards away.
After a scoreless first overtime, Calvin's Bekah Maguire ended the match in the 105th minute, heading the ball past sophomore keeper Kelsey Postema (Marshall, Mich./Marshall). Postema finished the match with seven saves as Calvin outshot Alma by a 24-11 margin.
Alma returns to Scotland Yard on Saturday, Oct. 31, to host Trine University in the final regular-season match for the Scots. Kickoff is set for Noon.

"It was a great game. The girls played hard from the first whistle to the end no matter what the score was. They played just as hard down 2-0 as if the game was 0-0, and that's an expectation of mine and it was good to see. Calvin is the best in the conference by far and some of the most talented players in the conference are on that team. It's a heartbreaking result, but the play was good and we walk away having left it all out there on the field."
