The Alma College Women's Soccer team welcomed MIAA-leading Hope College to Scotland Yard on Wednesday for a pivotal conference match up. The visiting Flying Dutch displayed why they sit atop the league standings, defeating the Scots 5-0 in Alma.

With the loss, the Scots drop to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in the MIAA. Hope improves to 7-2 on the year with the win and continue to be perfect in league play with a 6-0 conference record.

The Flying Dutch came out strong on Wednesday afternoon, amassing a 3-1 shot total in the early parts of the first half. At 9:17, Hope's Nora Kirk would collect her first goal of the match to put the visitors up 1-0.

Less than five minutes later, Kirk would strike again to stretch the lead to 2-0 at the 14:14 mark.

Both teams would tighten up on defense for the remainder of the half and the score remained 2-0 after one half of play.

The second half saw both teams on the offensive, with each club trading early shots. At 59:14 the Flying Dutch would cash in a ball from the corner box to extend the advantage to 3-0.

Seven minutes later Hope would score again to take the 4-0 lead at 66:15.

The Flying Dutch would close out the match with one more goal at 80:34 to leave Alma with the 5-0 shutout victory.

So. M Macayla Greiner (Hart/Hart) and Jr. F Kelly Wilson (Midland/Dow) led the Scots with three shots a piece and Sr. F Mackenzie Smith (Saginaw/Saginaw Nouvel) added two shots on Wednesday.

In goal, Fr. GK Jenna Fassbender (Mattawan/Mattawan) falls to 3-3 after grabbing seven saves on 12 shots on goal.

Alma returns home on Saturday, Sep. 27, for a noon match up with Adrian College.
