Box Score The Alma College Women's Lacrosse team returned to Bahlke Field on Saturday to welcome Kalamazoo College for match in the sunshine. The Scots shined on Saturday, securing the 12-8 victory at home.
With the win, Alma improves to 6-5 overall and 1-1 in the league. The Hornets drop to 3-5 on the year and 1-1 in the MIAA with the loss.
So. A Ashton Street (Brighton/Brighton) put the Scots on the board early in the first half, scoring her 18th goal of the season at 28:35.
Kalamazoo would answer at 22:18, and the score was tied 1-1 early in the first.
At 19:34, Fr. A Stephanie Chou (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) snuck one past the goalie to put Alma up 2-1.
The Hornets scored the next two goals to take the 3-2 lead at 16:54.
Alma would respond in a major way, scoring three straight to retake the lead at 5-3.
Following a Kalamazoo goal, Chou collected her third goal of the afternoon to put the Scots up 6-4. Six minutes later, Jr. MF Tracy Gallihugh (Lansing/Waverly) found the back of the net and Alma stretched the lead to 7-4 with just under two minutes to play in the half.
The Hornets notched a goal with just 18 seconds remaining in the first half, and the score showed 7-5 heading into the locker rooms.
Alma started the second half with two-straight goals to extend the lead to four, 9-5.
Kalamazoo recorded a goal at 12:57, to shrink the Alma advantage to three.
Fr. A Valkyrie Progar (Brighton/Brighton) collected her second goal of the match at 9:43, and the Scots held the 10-6 lead with just under 10 minutes to play.
Both teams would exchange goals in the final eight minutes, with Gallihugh scoring the final point of the match at 1:07, to give Alma the 12-8 victory at Bahlke Field.
Chou led all players with four goals, while Gallihugh tallied three and a team-high four groundballs.
Street and Progar both finished with two goals and Jr. MF Sydney Bryce (Lake Orion/Lake Orion) added the other goal for Alma.
In goal, Sr. GK Stephanie Herman (Bay City/All-Saints Central) collected four saves in the win, improving to 6-5 on the year.
The Scots held the advantage in groundballs, 16-8, and forced 18 turnovers while committing only 14.
Alma hits the road on Tuesday, April 8th, to take on Trine University in a match set for 4:00 p.m.
