Gallihugh breaks record, Alma Women's Lacrosse blast Saint Mary's 24-6

The Alma College Women's Lacrosse team wrapped up the regular season on Saturday, traveling to Notre Dame, IN for a match with Saint Mary's College. The Scots were dominant at the SMC Lacrosse Field, earning the convincing 24-6 victory on Saturday.

With the win, the Scots improved to 12-5 overall with a 7-1 mark in the MIAA. The Belles dropped to 2-13 on the year and 1-7 in the league with the loss.

Alma came out of the gate firing on Saturday, jumping out to the early 3-0 lead after a score by Fr. A Stephanie Chou (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) and back-to-back goals by Jr. MF Tracy Gallihugh (Lansing/Waverly) at 26:03.

Gallihugh would connect on two-straight free position goals and the score showed 5-2 with just over 18 minutes to play in the first. So. A Ashton Street (Brighton/Brighton) found the back of the net for a man-up goal to extend the Scots lead to 6-2 at 17:02.

The tandem of Chou and Gallihugh would score the next seven-straight goals to give Alma the commanding 15-2 lead late in the first half. Street would collect her third goal of the contest with just 45 seconds remaining in the first, and the Scots took the 16-2 advantage into the locker rooms.

Chou and Street both recorded a goal in the first few minutes of the second half to stretch the lead to 18-2 with just over 20 minutes remaining.

Jr. MF Sydney Bryce (Lake Orion/Lake Orion) found the net unassisted at 14:05, and the score read 19-4 midway through the second. Following another goal by Gallihugh, Fr. MF Darby Kahler (Coldwater/Coldwater) got on the board at 8:04 to extend the lead to 21-4.

With just over a minute remaining, Fr. D Kaitlyn Urick (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbrand) sent a pass from Chou past the goalie to give Alma the 23-6 lead. Gallihugh ended the match with a goal, her 12th on the afternoon, and Alma left Notre Dame with the 24-6 victory.

After tying the record with her 10 goal performance against Olivet, Gallihugh broke both the Alma record and MIAA record for goals in a game with her 12 scores on Saturday.

Chou recorded five goals for Alma, and Street tallied four scores in the win. Bryce, Urick and Kahler added the remaining three goals for the Scots. Chou led Alma with four assists, while Gallihugh added two helpers on Saturday.

In goal, Sr. GK Stephanie Herman (Bay City/All-Saints Central) got the win after collecting three saves on five shots to improve to 12-6 on the year.

Alma held nearly all statistical advantages Saturday, including draw controls (23-9), clears (13-11), and groundballs (32-20).

The Scots begin play in the 2014 MIAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament on Wednesday, April 30th, when they welcome Calvin College to Bahlke Field for a match at 5 p.m.
