Women's LAX hosted Olivet on Friday and defeated the Comets 20-10 as Tracy Gallihugh had 10 goals

On a sunny and very comfortable mid-April afternoon, the Alma College women's lacrosse team hosted Olivet College in a MIAA tilt at Bahlke Field. Behind a team-record 10 goals by Jr. M Tracy Gallihugh (Lansing/Waverly), the Scots defeated the Comets by a score of 20-10.

With the win, Alma is now 5-1 in the MIAA and 10-5 overall, while the Comets fell to 2-4 in the league and 3-11 in 2014.

Alma came out blasting away in the first half and scored three goals in the first 3:01 to take a 3-0 lead. The goals were scored by Jr. M Sydney Bryce (Lake Orion/Lake Orion), Gallihugh and Fr. A Stephanie Chou (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick).

The Comets scored the next two goals before Alma took control by running off the next four tallies for a 7-2 advantage at the 12:28 mark of the first half. So. A Ashton Street (Brighton/Brighton) and Gallihugh led that charge as they scored three and one respectively.

The two teams basically traded goals the rest of the frame and the Scots went into the break with a commanding lead of 11-4.

In the second half, Alma scored two of the first three goals and led 14-5 with 22:42 remaining in the contest as Gallihugh tallied both for the Scots. The Comets narrowed their deficit to 15-8 with 16:55 left, but Alma was not going to let them getting any closer.

The Scots had two goals by Fr. A Emalee Ousley (Rancho Murieta, CA/Pleasant Grove) to increase the lead to 17-8. Chou and Gallihugh then scored one and two respectively over the last 9:30 to close out the 20-10 margin of victory.

Sr. GK Stephanie Herman (Bay City/All-Saints Central) had four saves to earn the win, while Fr. GK Miranda Kruse (Ann Arbor/Ann Arbor Pioneer) played the final 30 minutes and notched three saves.

Up next for the Scots is the final regular season home for Alma when they host Calvin College on Thursday at Bahlke Field. Start time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
