Box Score The Alma College Women's Soccer team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday by welcoming Trine University for a match at Scotland Yard. The Scots scored within the first four minutes of the game and road the momentum to a 3-1 victory at home.
With the win, Alma is now 8-6-1 in the conference and 10-7-1 overall, while Trine drops to 2-10-3 in the conference and an overall record of 4-11-3.
Alma quickly took control when So. M Macayla Griener (Hart/Hart) scored off a corner kick from Sr. F MacKenzie Smith (Saginaw/Saginaw Nouvel) 3:20 into the contest.
At the half, the Scots would lead in shots (11-1), but after the early goal, the game remained scoreless and Alma went into the break with a one-goal advantage.
Alma added another goal at the 52:56 mark, when
D/F So. Megan Kalanik (Milford/Lakeland) connected with a header from an assist by
Sr. M Quinn Huver (Alto/Caledonia).
Alma would score again shortly after at 55:21, when F Jr. Kelly Wilson (Midland/Dow) scored unassisted.
Trine would respond later on in the half at 73:43 of the game, but Alma held on and got the 3-1 win.
Alma finished the game with 21 total shots, nine of them being on goal. Wilson and Greiner led the team with two shots on goal a piece.
In goal, Fr. GK Rachael Fokken (Pinckney/Pinckney) earned the win after collecting two saves in 90:00 minutes to improve to 2-3 on the year.
Alma will host their final regular-season home game on Monday, November 3, when they welcome Kalamazoo to Scotland Yard for a match at 3:00 p.m.
