On a glorious and sunny Saturday afternoon in mid-Michigan, the Alma College Women's Soccer team hosted Albion College in a MIAA tilt at Scotland Yard. A first half goal by the Britons stood up and the visitors earned a 1-0 victory.

With the loss, the Scots fell to 6-3-1 in the league and 8-4-1 overall, while Albion improved to 9-4-1 in 2014 and 5-4-1 in the MIAA.

"I think we were incredibly unfortunate today," said Alma Head Coach Matt Saul. "Sometimes luck doesn't go your way. We could have played for three days and not scored. That being said, we took a 15 minute break in the middle of the first half, and gave up an incredibly soft goal.

"We cannot keep going a goal behind. This is something that needs to change. I will give a lot of credit to Eric and his staff at Albion, as they have turned the program around and are a tough opponent."

The lone goal was scored directly off of a corner kick when Albion M Caroline Egan curved it around and then through the hands of Alma Fr. GK Jenna Fassbender (Mattawan/Mattawan) at the 28:26 mark.

Despite outshooting Albion 17-6 in the second half (23-14 for the game), the Scots could not get anything past Britons GK Maggie Troost. Shots on goal for the contest favored Alma by a mark of 5-4 and the Scots had 11 corner kicks to Albion's two.

Five different Scots each had one shot on goal, while the total shots leader for Alma was So. M Jessica Burg (Grand Ledge/Grand Ledge), with five and one on net. Fassbender recorded three saves in the loss.

Alma's next game is at home on Tuesday afternoon, when they host Saint Mary's College at Scotland Yard. Start time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
