Box Score On a cloudy and windy Saturday afternoon, the Alma College Women's Lacrosse team hosted Trine University in a league match at Bahlke Field. The Scots defeated the Thunder by a score of 18-6 to improve to 2-0 in the MIAA and 11-1 overall, while Trine is now 1-3 in 2013 and 0-1 in the league.
Alma came out storming on Saturday as the home team scored six goals in the first 10 minutes for the 6-0 early advantage. Fr. A Ashton Street (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) and So. M Tracy Gallihugh Lansing, Mich./Waverly) each had two goals in the early avalanche.
The Thunder scored the next two before an unassisted goal by Alma Sr. A Christie Havrilla (Okemos, Mich../Okemos) at 15:19 made it a 7-2 game. After a goal by So. M Sydney Bryce (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion), the Scots led 10-4 with 7:15 left in the half and looked to be in control.
However, the Thunder fought back for the final two goals of the first frame and Alma went into halftime with the 10-6 advantage.
The Scots dug deeper in the second half and dominated the Thunder, outscoring the visitors by a margin of 8-0 in the final 30 minutes. Gallihugh scored three more goals in the frame, while Street had two additional tallies.
For the game, Street had nine shots on goal, while Gallihugh and Havrilla were close behind with seven a piece. In net, Jr. GK Stephanie Herman (Bay City, Mich./All-Saints Central) finished the contest with 11 saves in picking up the victory.
Alma will travel to Baldwin-Wallace on Sunday afternoon for a non-league contest, beginning at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow. The Scots will continue MIAA action on Wednesday night when they play at Olivet College with a 7:00 p.m. start time.
