On a "spring" Saturday afternoon better suited for a late season football game, the Alma College Women's Lacrosse team hosted Adrian College in a battle for first place in the MIAA. The visiting Bulldogs proved to be the stronger team on this day, capturing a 22-6 win at a snowy, blustery Bahlke Field.

With the loss, the Scots are now 3-1 in the MIAA and 12-2 overall, while Adrian improved to 3-0 in the league and 11-2 in 2013.

Alma struck first when Sr. A Christie Havrilla (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) scored 40 seconds into the match, assisted by So. M Sydney Bryce (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion). The Bulldogs responded by scoring the next three for a 3-1 advantage at the 25:03 mark.

Bryce scored unassisted at 24:28 to make it 3-2, but Adrian then put a string of six goals in a row and led 9-2 with 17:46 left in the half. The visitors always seemed to have the answer to an Alma goal or run. Fr. A Ashton Street (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) and Havrilla each notched unassisted tallies to cut the deficit to 9-4 at 12:10.

Again, Adrian responded, this time with four goals for a 13-4 lead. So. A Addison Duffy (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Lahser) and Street each scored unassisted to make it 13-6. However, the Bulldogs scored the final three goals of the half (6:12) and took a 16-6 advantage into halftime.

The second half belonged totally to the experienced Bulldogs as they put their foot down and sealed the victory. Adrian scored the only six goals of the final 30 minutes to increase the advantage to 22-6, holding the Scots to just five shots on goal.

Alma is now off for a few days due to final exams. They will host Calvin College on Friday afternoon, with starting time set for 4:00 p.m. at Bahlke Field.
