Box Score In a game where the Scots dominated nearly every statistical category, the Alma College women's soccer team defeated conference-foe Kalamazoo 3-0 at Scotland Yard on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Scots improve to 7-4 overall and continue to lead the MIAA with a 7-1 conference mark. The Hornets drop to 4-7 on the year with a 3-5 conference record.
"I am proud of the way our girls responded after a difficult weekend," said Alma Head Coach Jeff Hosler. "We are playing very well defensively right now, only conceding one goal in our last five match ... it feels good to capitalize better on our chances today and see the ball hit the back of the net."
A header by Fr. F Brianna Russell (Plainwell /Delton Kellogg) of an assist by Jr. M Kalley Vlug (Coopersville/Coopersville) put Alma up 1-0 at the 13:59 mark. Less than a minute later, Kelly Wilson notched a goal off an assist by Jr. D Samantha Waldrop (Ann Arbor/Pioneer) to put the Scots up 2-0 in the first half.
11 minutes into the second half, Jr. F Mackenzie Smith (Saginaw/Saginaw Nouvel) knocked in a goal off an assist by Fr. M Macayla Greiner (Hart/Hart) to seal the 3-0 victory for Alma.
The Scots held nearly every statistical advantage in the game, outshooting the Hornets 15-5 and recording three corner kicks to Kalamazoo's zero.
Alma takes the field again on Tuesday, Oct. 8, traveling to take on Calvin at 4 p.m.
