Alma drops 3-0 decision to league-leading Hope on Saturday at home

On a chilly Saturday afternoon, the Alma College women's soccer team fell to Hope 3-0 at Scotland Yard. With the loss, Alma fel to 10-6 overall and now has a 10-3 mark in conference. The Flying Dutch improve to 14-2-1 on the year and lead the MIAA with a 11-2-1 conference record with the victory.

"We played hard today and executed the game plan, said Alma Head Coach Jeff Hosler. "We just didn't provide quailty enough final balls or capitalize on many chances we created, particularly in the first half."

"As disappointing as the result was, we are still in the thick of the MIAA race. We will learn from today's mistakes and be better because of it."

The Scots pressed early, firing three shots to begin the first half. Hope would respond at 14:47 when Raisa Yewah connected on a header off a cross by Nora Kirk to give the Flying Dutch the 1-0 advantage. The rest of the half was played to a standstill and Hope took the 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

At the 67:27 mark of the second half, Sarah Fazio found the back of the net off a corner by Erin Jipping to put Hope up 2-0. Yewah tallied her second goal of the afternoon at 78:29 to extend the Flying Dutch advantage to 3-0. Alma recorded four shots to finish the half but were unable to score and Hope took the contest 3-0.

Despite the loss, the Scots recorded more shots (19-12) and corner kicks (9-5) than the Flying Dutch.

In goal, Fr. GK Marissa Platz (Belmont/Rockford) recorded four saves for Alma while Kat Dickson tallied five for Hope. So. M Agatha Weddle (Walled Lake/Northern) led the Scots with two shots on goal and three total shots, while Jr. F Mackenzie Smith (Saginaw/Nouvel Catholic) added a shot on net and a team-high five attempts at net.

The Scots return to Scotland Yard on Wednesday, October 30, to take on Adrian at 4:00 p.m.
