Box Score On Saturday afternoon, the Scots Women's Basketball team traveled to Holland to take on Hope College in a MIAA match-up. The Flying Dutch jumped on the Scots early and never looked back en route to a 69-36 win over the visitors. Alma is now 2-3 in the league and 3-10 overall, while Hope improved to 5-0 in the MIAA and 13-0 in 2012-13.
"We did not play well today and against the number seven team in the nation you have to play your best game," said Scots Head Coach Keisha Brown. "We played hard but didn't shoot well and did not take care of the ball. You have to do both of those against a team like Hope."
The only lead Alma would have on this afternoon was at 2-1 when Jr. F Mary Schlicher (Lewiston, Mich./Johannesburg-Lewiston) hit a jumper one minute into the contest. The Flying Dutch would then go on a 17-2 run to take a lead of 19-4 with 10:49 left in the half. The Scots cut it to 11 before Hope extended their advantage to 36-16 at halftime.
Neither team was able to score in the first 3:09 of the second half until Hope hit a bucket and slowly increased their advantage. The closest the Scots could get in the final 20 minutes was their halftime deficit and eventually the Flying Dutch closed out the 69-36 victory.
The Scots didn't score a lot of points but were led by Sr. G Stephanie Faller (Saginaw, Mich./Valley Lutheran), who had a team-high seven. Fr. F Logan Rowell (Cass City, Mich./Cass City) added six points and five rebounds, while Sr. F Danielle Hicks (Marshall, Mich./Marshall) contributed a team-high six boards and had two steals and two blocks.
Alma will host Olivet College on Wednesday evening beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Art Smith Arena.
