Alma Women's Lacrosse defeats Olivet on Wednesday evening, 16-14

On Wednesday evening, the Alma Women's Lacrosse team played their first-ever game in the state of Michigan when they traveled to Olivet College to take on the Comets. The Scots came away with a hard-fought 16-14 win in overtime to win their second game in a row, and Alma's first-year program now has a record of 2-3 on the season.

Alma jumped on their hosts from Olivet by taking a 6-0 advantage in the first 14 minutes of the first half, aided by two goals each by Jr. A Brittney Cole (Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) and Fr. M Sydney Bryce (Oak Lawn, Mich./Lake Orion). Head Coach Laurie Jordan's team ultimately took a 9-5 lead into halftime.

Olivet would eventually take a 12-11 lead late in the second half, only to see Alma gain a 14-13 advantage. The Comets tied the game at 14-14 with 3:43 remaining and the two teams went into overtime.

Brice scored at 3:59 of overtime and Cole answered with a goal at 3:00 to give the Scots the 16-14 advantage that would become the margin of victory for the visitors. Cole finished the evening with five goals, while Fr. M Tracy Gallihugh (Lansing, Mich/Waverly) added five tallies and Bryce notched three in the win.

So. GK Stephanie Herman (Bay City, Mich./All Saints Central) earned the win for the Scots with nine saves, while So. GK Amber Johannes (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lake Shore) also played and had two saves in the win. 

Alma will next play on Friday evening when they take on Fontbonne at Rock Island, Illinois, beginning at 6:00 p.m. EST.
