Box Score Saturday afternoon was another historic day for Alma lacrosse as it was the first-ever home game for the women's program. The Scots hosted Davenport University and although they lost a heartbreaking 14-13 overtime decision, the day was a success and a positive sign for the program moving forward.
"It was an incredibly tough loss under unusual circumstances," said Scots Athletic Director John Leister. "However, the fact that we lost the game does not take away from what today was and I am proud of Laurie and her girls. This team is competitive and had things gone a little bit different, they would walked off the field with the win. A great start for the program."
The Scots jumped out to an early 3-0 lead but the game was going to be competitive throughout, as the teams went into halftime at 7-7. There was never more than a one goal difference the rest of the way as the two teams battled all afternoon.
Davenport tied the score at 13-13 with just one second remaining in regulation in a goal that was disputed but that counted nonetheless. The only goal of overtime went to the visitors who walked off with the one goal victory.
Jr. A Christie Havrilla (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) led the Scots with six goals, while Fr. M Tracy Gallihugh (Lansing, Mich./Waverly) added five tallies.
The Scots will host Olivet College on Tuesday afternoon at Bahlke Field beginning at 4:30 p.m.
