Box Score Bringing campus and the community together, the Alma College basketball program hosted a "Ballin' for a Cure" game in support of breast cancer awareness.
In a doubleheader, the women's team dressed in pink uniforms and played against the Trine Thunder, while the men's team faced the Kalamazoo Hornets.
Organizations from the Alma and Mt. Pleasant area set up booths in the Art Smith Arena lobby gathering donations and providing information in support of breast cancer awareness.
The organizations included Angel Wings Foundation, Relay for Life, Salon Blu, and WMLM a local radio station.
According to Dawn Augustine, business manager and DJ at WMLM Radio, this is the third year they have participated in the Pink Game. The radio station provided a live broadcast throughout the event. "Our station loves to be involved in the community," Augustine said.
At their set up booth, WMLM gave away bracelets, mini basketballs, and water bottles all donated by different businesses within the community.
Donators included Daily Living Homecare, Frontier, AlleyT, and Needham's.
Salon Blu, from Mt. Pleasant, had a booth that provided haircuts to girls willing to donate their hair. Girls could donate 8 to 10 inches for Pantene Pro-V to convert to wigs and 13 girls donated locks by the end of the day.
The games brought out a large crowd of students with the first 40 receiving free pink t-shirts.
Not disappointing the crowd of both students and community members, the men and women's teams each pulled out wins against their opponents.
