Scots Women's Soccer beats Albion 9-1 on Wednesday

Box Score

The Alma College Women's Soccer team hosted Albion College on Wednesday afternoon and defeated the visiting Britons by a score of 9-1 at Scotland Yard. Alma is now 6-1-1 in the MIAA, good for first place at the halfway point of league play and are 9-2-1 overall this season. The Britons fell to 0-6-1 in the league and 0-10-1 in 2012.

"Our focus and energy were both good from the opening whistle," said Scots Head Coach Jeff Hosler. "Our substitutes got more minutes than normal, as did the reserves that were dressed for this match."

The Scots jumped out to a quick start by taking a 4-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game and eventually extended the advantage to 8-0 by halftime. Alma continued their strong play early in the second half and extended their lead to 9-0 before Albion got on the board in the 68th minute for the final score of 9-1.

Six different players scored for the Scots during the afternoon, led by three girls with two tallies a piece - Jr. M/F Taryn Handyside (Montrose, Mich./Hill McCloy), So. Mackenzie Smith (Saginaw, Mich./Nouvel) and So. M/F Kailey Vlug (Coopersville, Mich./Coopersville).

Additional goals were scored by Fr. M/F Mallory Simon (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central), Fr. M/F Agatha Weddle (White Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Northern) and Fr. F Kelly Wilson (Midland, Mich./Dow).
