Box Score

Thursday afternoon, the Alma College Women's Soccer team hosted Olivet College in a MIAA contest at Scotland Yard and came out on the right side of a 4-0 decision. The win for the #25 ranked Scots improved their league record to 7-1-2 and they now have a mark of 10-2-2 on the season, while the Comets left town at 2-8 in the MIAA and 2-12 overall.

"It feels good to earn a shutout and a big part of that was earned by contstant possession and ball winning in the midfleld," said Scots Head Coach Jeff Hosler. "We did a really good job of applying pressure in the final third and we played with good creativity."

The Scots were determined to get off to a fast start on Thursday and they did just that 1:04 into the game. Fr. M Agatha Weddle (White Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Northern) knocked in a header from So. M Kailey Vlug (Coopersville, Mich./Coopersville) for a 1-0 Alma advantage. Alma increased their advantage to 2-0 at halftime when Vlug scored at 25:27 on a corner from So. F Mackenzie Smith (Saginaw, Mich./Nouvel).

At 53:57, Weddle made the score 3-0 when she scored on an assist by Fr. M/F Mallory Simon (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central). Sr. M/F Danielle Hicks (Marshall, Mich./Marshall), playing her first season of collegiate soccer, finished the day's scoring at 84:37 on assists by Fr. F Bryn Kittle (Rockford, Ill./Rockford Christian) and Fr. M Allysen Neumann (Greenville, Mich./Greenville). The tally gave the Scots final the 4-0 margin of victory.

The final tally of shots was 29-3 in favor of the Scots, including 17-3 in shots on goal. So. GK Morgan Waier (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) saves all three of Olivets's shots to earn the shutout victory.

Alma continues action on Saturday when they travel to Grand Rapids to take on Calvin in a battle for first place in the MIAA standings. Match time is scheduled for Noon.
