Box Score

On Wednesday night the women's basketball team played the Olivet Comets in Art Smith Arena. The game ended with a final score of 80-67 after a hard fought second half. The game put the Comets at 2-6 in the conference and 4-13 overall while the loss left the Scots at 2-6 in the conference and 4-13 overall.

"We just have to get more consistent," said Alma Head Coach Keisha Brown. "The game was played in two halves and we can't  play that way and expect to win a game. They realized that wasn't them in the first half and they knew they needed to come out in the second half and play with some emotion."

The game began with the Scots in the lead, scoring the first nine points of the game. With 13:55 on the clock the Comets took the lead making the score 9-8. From there the Comets began to pull away. Olivet shot 66.7% from the three point line, earning them 18 of their 49 points in the first half. The Scots were not able to regain their lead for the remainder of the half, entering the locker room with a score of 49-27.

In the second half, the Scots came out fired up scoring 14 points in the first seven minutes and allowing Olivet College only two. With 11:08 on the clock, the Scots narrowed the point margin to only six, with a basket by Jr. G. Danielle Hicks (Marshall/Marshall). The Comets also found themselves in foul trouble early in the second half.

Hicks again led the Scots closer to the Comets, scoring two quick layups which made the score 60-55 with five minutes left in the game, the closest margin in the second half. The women's basketball team could not close their deficit further though and Olivet College managed to again pull away, winning the game with a final score of 80-67.

The Scots shot 27% in the first half and 39% in the second. Hicks and So. G. Brittney Deerfield (Gaylord/Gaylord) led the Scots with 15 points a piece. Hicks also led Alma with 17 rebounds earned.

Continuing MIAA play, the Scots will play Saint Mary's College on Saturday, again at Art Smith Arena.
