Alma Women's Soccer defeats Aurora (Ill.) 2-0 on Sunday afternoon

Box Score

The Alma Women's Soccer team defeated Aurora (Ill.) by a score of 2-0 on Sunday afternoon to complete a weekend sweep for the Scots in Chicago. The team beat North Park University (Ill.), also by a margin of 2-0, on Saturday and now the Scots are off until September 10, when they host Carroll University (Wis.) at Scotland Yard.

"It was a great start for us to get two wins out of this trip and I cannot say enough about how we played defensively all weekend," said Alma Head Coach Jeff Hosler. "Aurora is a team that has made the NCAA Tournament three years in a row and have a proud history, so to win at their place really says a lot for us. We are now anxious to play two quality opponents at home next weekend."

Before a big crowd, the visiting Scots scored at the 18:40 mark, when Sr. Carly Reising (Otsego, Mich./Otsego) scored unassisted for a 1-0 lead. Alma took a 2-0 advantage over the host Spartans when So. Taryn Handyside (Montrose, Mich./Hill-McCloy) scored on a corner kick assisted by Reising and So. Ann Kennedy (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern) at 54:45.

For the game, Alma Sr. GK Monica Witt (Clio, Mich./Clio) recorded six saves and now has two shutouts in the first two contests, and the Scots had four shots on goal in the win.
