Alma Women's soccer defeats Olivet 9-0

The Alma Women's Soccer team, fresh off of a tough loss to Adrian on Wednesday, continued MIAA play on Saturday when they hosted Olivet College at Scotland Yard. The Scots bounced back from their disappointment, defeating the Comets by a score of 9-0, improving Alma to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in the league.

The Scots jumped out early on Saturday, as Sr. M Becky Marton (Williamston, Mich,/Williamston) scored at the 4:55 mark on an assist bySr. M/F Carly Reising (Otsego, Mich./Otsego). Those two reversed their fortunes at 9:25, when Reising headed in a pass from Marton for a 2-0 lead.

So. M/F Taryn Handyside (Montrose, Mich./Hill-McCloy) made it 3-0 at 16:42 on an assist from Jr. M/F Elaine Cunningham (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central). Cunningham made the halftime lead 4-0 when she scored on a pass from Marton at 37:26.

The Scots scored five more goals in the second half to secure the league win. Marton and Handyside each scored one, with a goal also coming from Sr. M Annette Stromberg (North Muskegon, Mich./North Muskegon). Additionally, Fr. F Mackenzie Smith (Saginaw, Mich./Nouvel) tallied two goals in the final half for the Scots. 

Alma will next play at Calvin on Tuesday in Grand Rapids, with the game beginning at 4:00 p.m.
