Box Score A goal with just 26 seconds remaining gave host Adrian College a 3-2 victory over the Alma College Women's Soccer game on Saturday afternoon. With the tough loss, the Scots fall to 6-2-1 in the MIAA and 10-2-1 overall, while the Bulldogs, in sole possession of first place, are now 8-1 in the league and 10-3 in 2011.
The Scots did what any road team wants to do as they took an early lead when Jr. M/F Elaine Cunningham (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central) connected on a shot from 10 yards yard out on an assist from Sr. M Annette Stromberg (North Muskegon, Mich./North Muskegon) at the 3:21 mark for a 1-0 lead for the visitors.
The Bulldogs scored goals at the 11:35 mark and at 25:45 to take a 2-1 advantage into halftime, with one of the goals being by the MIAA leader Sam Barker, who scored her 14th on the season.
The visiting Scots were not going away however, and at 53:43, Stromberg shot a left side ball from 15 feet out that found the back of the net, assisted by Fr. D Samantha Waldrop (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) for a 2-2 tie.
However, the heartbreak came at the 89:34 point of the game, when Ellery Karsten found the netting with a high shot from 21 yards out to give the Bulldogs the 3-2 lead and the eventual win.
The Scots will next play on Wednesday, when they host Calvin College at Scotland Yard, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
