Scots Women's Soccer drops a 1-0 decision at Kalamazoo on Saturday

The Alma Women's Soccer team traveled to Kalamazoo on Saturday afternoon and dropped a defensive minded 1-0 decision to the Hornets at the Kalamazoo Community Soccer Complex. The loss puts the Scots at 10-3-1 in the MIAA and 14-3-1 overall, while the Hornets improved to 10-4 in the league and 11-6-1 in 2011.

The game was scoreless through the first half, and Kalamazoo finally broke the deadlock at 54:20, when Jackie Short scored on an assist by Rachel Pitzer that got by Alma Sr. GK. Monica Witt (Clio, Mich./Clio). That goal held up for the Hornets, as they walked off the pitch with the one-goal victory. 

Alma's seven shots on goal were paced by Fr. F MacKenzie Smith (Saginaw, Mich./Saginaw Nouvel) and Sr. M Annette Stromberg (North Muskegon, Mich./North Muskegon), who each had two. Defensively, Witt had five saves for the game, while Fr. GK Morgan Waier (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) stopped two shots after entering the game.

The Scots will conclude their 2011 regular season schedule with two games at home this week. On Wednesday, they will host Hope College at Scotland Yard beginning at 4:00 p.m. Then the team will have Senior Day 2011 on Saturday, when they entertain Albion College in the finale. The game on the 29th will begin at Noon.
