Box Score The Alma Women's Soccer team completed a regular season sweep of perennial MIAA power Calvin College on Wednesday afternoon, when the Scots prevailed in a hard-fought 2-0 game by two good teams. The win improved Alma to 7-2-1 in the MIAA and 11-2-1 overall, while the Knights are now 6-4 in the league and 6-8 in 2011.
With six games remaining in the MIAA regular season schedule, much is yet to be determined, but this afternoon's game certainly was played by two teams that will be playing hard to be a part of the final playoff chase.
After a scoreless first half, Alma struck first as Sr. M/F Carly Reising (Otsego, Mich./Otsego) took a long field length pass from Jr. M/F Elaine Cunningham (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central).
Reising then took the ball 30 plus yards down the field and put a shot over the head of Calvin GK Ashton Hearn for a 1-0 lead at 47:01. At 69:52, Reising made it 2-0 on an unassisted goal that deflected off of Hearn and into the net to give the Scots the cushion of victory.
The Scots' next game is on Saturday against Saint Mary's College, beginning at Noon at Scotland Yard for Homecoming 2011.
