The Alma Women's Soccer team took on Greenville College (IL), a perennial contender on Saturday, and was able to come away with a 2-0 non-league victory. The match was played at a neutral site at Defiance College, and now the Scots will take on Capital University (OH) on Sunday afternoon. The win improved Alma to 2-0 on the season.
"We were able take advantage of our great depth this afternoon," said Alma Head Coach Jeff Hosler. " We played 21 girls today and that will only help us in the long run. It benefits any program to get a win on the road early on, and I think this a step in the right direction in terms of results in the non-conference schedule.
Fr. M Taryn Handyside (Montrose, MI/Hill-McCloy) broke the ice for the Scots at the 29:09 mark on a goal assisted by Jr. M/F Carly Reising (Otsego, MI/Otsego) to give Alma a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. Handyside scored again at the 67:01 mark on an unassisted goal that gave Alma the decisive 2-0 advantage.
"On Sunday, we will play at Capital for a tough road game for us," said Hosler. "They have a great soccer tradition and they have won several league titles in recent years. Our girls are excited for the challenge and we will go out and give it our best."
