Alma Women's Soccer defeats visiting Heidelberg, 2-0, on Saturday

Box Score

Playing their last non-league game before MIAA action, the Alma Women's Soccer team hosted Heidelberg College of Ohio, and came away with the 2-0 victory. The Scots earned the win on a cool, cloudy afternoon and improved their record to 6-3, while the visitors fell to the identical 6-3 mark.

Alma carried play throughout the first half of the game, but could not get enough of their shots on goal and the first 45 minutes ended in a 0-0 stalemate. The Scots outshot the Berg by a margin of 9-2, but only one of those shots was on goal, and it was stopped by Heidelberg GK Molly Schriber.

Sr. F Jessica Swan (Romeo, MI/Romeo) gave the Scots a 1-0 lead at 60:25 on an unassisted goal that she fired into the upper corner of the net past Schriber. Swan put the game away in the final minute, as she scored at 89:14, on a goal assisted by Fr. D Autumn Root (Haslett, MI/Haslett), giving the home team the 2-0 victory.

For the game, Alma outshot the Berg by a total of 24-7 (8-6 SOG) and Scots Jr. GK Monica Witt (Clio, MI/Clio) stopped all six shots thrown at her for the shutout win.

The next game for the Scots will be the MIAA opener on Wednesday afternoon, when they host Olivet College at Scotland Yard. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
