Alma Women's Soccer loses 1-0 overtime decision to DII Northwood University

Box Score

The Alma Women's Soccer team hosted Division II Northwood University on a cool late Summer afternoon at Scotland Yard and dropped a tough 1-0 decision that was not decided until overtime. The loss drops the Scots to 3-3 in 2010, while the Timberwolves improved to 2-3.

Northwood came to play on Wednesday and had the Scots on their heels early in the first half, but the home team settled down and the half ended with each team taking six shots, three on goal for Alma and two on goal for the Timberwolves. Jr Becky Marton (Williamston, MI/Williamston) paced the Scots with three shots in the half, two on goal.

The second half was also scoreless as Northwood hit the net with all three of their shots, but JR. GK Monica Witt (Clio, MI/Clio) stopped each attempt. The Scots' Jr. M/F Carly Reising (Otsego, MI/Otsego) had the team's only shot on goal in the half.

The Timberwolves had two quick shots in the overtime period, and Jr. F Amanda Watson, the team's leading scorer, connected on the second one and drove it past Witt at the 93:50 mark for the 1-0 Northwood victory.

Alma next plays on Sunday, when they host North Park (IL) at Scotland Yard, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
