Scots Women's Soccer loses to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CA), 6-1 on Friday

Alma Women's soccer traveled to California on Thursday and played highly regarded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Friday afternoon. The Scots came out on the wrong end of a 6-1 final score, and are now 8-4-1 on the season, while CMS improved to 6-2-3 for 2010.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps scored three goals in each half against the Scots, putting the visitors in a hole from the beginning. The hosts scored goals in the 3rd, 25th and 42nd minute of the opening frame to take a 3-0 lead into halftime. After goals in the 59th and 78th minute, Alma got on the board at 78:12, when Jr. F Alli Meurer (Holland, MI/Zeeland West) scored a goal assisted by Jr. M Becky Marton (Williamston, MI/Williamston).

For the game, CMS outshot the Scots by a margin of just 11-8, (8-4 shots on goal), but took advantage of their opportunities when they had them. Meurer finished with three shots, while Marton had two for the Scots. Jr. M/F Carly Reising (Otsego, MI/Otsego), Fr. D Autumn Root (Haslett, MI/Haslett) and Fr. M Annette Stromberg (North Muskegon, MI/North Muskegon), each had one shot for Alma.

The Scots will host Adrian College on Wednesday afternoon at Scotland Yard, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
