Alma Women's Soccer team traveled to Trine on Saturday and defeated the host Thunder by a 2-0 margin. The victory improved the Scots to 4-0-1 in the MIAA and 10-4-1 overall, while Trine fell to 0-5 in the league and 3-12-1 in 2010. The Scots will host Kalamazoo on Tuesday for Senior Day at Scotland Yard.
"I thought our girls showed a lot of patience against a team that tried a different game plan, one that we have not seen this season," said Alma Head Coach Jeff Hosler. "But, we executed when we needed to and Becky Marton was very good for us in the first half, as she kind of put us on her back. This team seems to have someone different every game step up and that is really exciting."
The Scots scored the only goal of the first half, when Jr. M Becky Marton (Williamston, MI/Williamston) connected on an unassisted tally at 23:35. The visitors made the final score 2-0, when Jr. F Alli Meurer (Holland, MI/Zeeland West) finished a corner kick assisted by Jr. M/F Carly Reising (Otsego, MI/Otsego) at 61:00.
On Tuesday, the Scots will have Senior Day 2010, honoring five young women who will be moving on at the end of this season.
"We see this Senior Day, like all of them, as a chance to honor the time and commitment the graduating players have given this institution," said Hosler. "For me, it is really personal because I recruited these kids and they have played a huge part in elevating our program."
The game on Tuesday is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start.
