ALMA WOMEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS OBERLIN COLLEGE 1-0

Alma College Women's Soccer team played their last non-league game on Saturday, when they hosted Oberlin College at Scotland Yard on a cool and misty Mid-Michigan afternoon. The Scots defeated the Yeowomen by a score of 1-0 to improve to 4-5-1 on the season, while Oberlin is now 3-4-2 in 2009.

After a scoreless first half, Alma broke through at the 56:21 mark, when So. M Becky Marton scored on a goal assisted by Jr. M Jessica Swan to give the home team the decisive 1-0 advantage. Oberlin worked hard for the tying goal, but it was not to be, and the Scots walked away with the victory.

Oberlin recorded ten shots (3 SOG) on the day, while Alma had eight total shots, with four shots on goal. Swan led the way for the Scots with three shots (2 SOG) and Alma Sr. GK Katie Weicksel saved all three that came her way to preserve the win.

Alma now begins league play when they host MIAA rival Hope College on Wednesday at Scotland Yard. Start time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. They will also welcome league foe Albion College on Saturday for a Noon contest at the Yard.
