SCOTS WOMEN'S SOCCER LOSES TO #18 WASHINGTON U (MO)

Alma College's Women's Soccer team played their home opener on Friday afternoon, but dropped a 2-0 decision to #18 Washington University (MO) at Scotland Yard. The Scots are now 1-4-1 on the season, while the Bears won their fourth match in a row to improve to 4-2 in 2009.

"We knew that when we set up the schedule, we would be playing teams that would make us better in the long run," said Alma Head Coach Jeff Hosler. "We are trying to win and the girls are battling out there, and we are close. We just need to play with more urgency and I believe we will find out a lot about ourselves over this weekend when we host Whitewater and Anderson."

Washington scored a goal in each half and took a 1-0 lead at the 20:48 mark when So. F Emma Brown scored on a header of a cross from So. M Rachel Hass. For the half, the Bears had six shots (four on goal) and the Scots finished with four shots, with one shot on goal.

The Bears made the score 2-0 at 78:18, when Brown scored her second goal of the game and sixth of the young season, when she netted an unassisted tally. For the game, Washington finished with 14 total shots and six on goal, while Alma had seven shots, two shots on goal.

So. M Carly Reising (Otsego, MI/Otsego) and Fr. M Elaine Cunningham (Ada, MI/Forest Hils) had the shots on goal for Alma. Sr. GK Katie Weicksel (Northville, MI/Northville) played the entire game in net for the Scots.

Alma will next play tomorrow, when the Scots host Wisconsin-Whitewater at Scotland Yard in a Noon tilt.
