The Alma Women's Soccer team opened up MIAA play on Saturday and defeated Albion College 2-1 on a beautiful, sunny afternoon at Scotland Yard. The victory, on Homecoming 2008, improved the Scots' season record to 5-4 (1-0, MIAA).
M Carly Reising (Ottsego, MI) opened the scoring in the 30th minute when she scored on a cross through from M Jessica Swan (Romeo, MI) and accounted for the only scoring of the first half.
Albion F Ali Oatley tied the game at 1-1 in the 72nd minute of the contest on an unassisted 20 foot shot. Swan put the Scots back in front just nine minutes later, scoring on a pass from F Tara Fitzsimmons (Marshall, MI) that put Alma into the win column.
GK Katie Weicksel (Northville, MI) recorded four saves in the game and picked up the win for the Scots. Swan led the way with four shots, while Fitzsimmons added three of her own and Reising put two towards the net as well for the Scots.
Next up for Alma is a home date with MIAA foe Kalamazoo College on Wednesday at Scotland Yard. Start time is slated for 4:00 p.m.
