ALMA WOMEN'S SOCCER LOSES TOUGH 2-1 DECISION AGAINST HEIDELBERG

Box Score

On a wet, dreary Saturday in Mid-Michigan, the Alma Scots hosted Heidelberg College for Parent's Day 2008 but came up on the short end of a 2-1, two-overtime game at Scotland Yard. Despite outshooting Heidelberg by a margin of 30-4 (11 SOG to 4 SOG), the Scots could only find the back of the net once against GK Lauren Sweeney.

The Scots hit two posts and one crossbar and had several other shots just miss the net, but when Heidelberg's Katelyn McBeath scored past GK Emma Heppler 3:01 (103:01 overall) into the second overtime, Alma was handed an improbable loss that drops them to 2-3 on the 2008 season.

Heidelberg opened the scoring just 1:04 into the contest when Kristen Schneider took a pass from Jennifer Pfaud and found herself open in from of the Alma net and was able to put it past GK Katie Weicksel for a 1-0 lead. The score remained that way until the 85th minute of the contest when Becky Marton, assisted by Jessica Swan, drilled a shot into Heidelberg's net for a 1-1 tie that sent the game into overtime.

Alma was led by Marton's seven shots (5 SOG) and Brooke Bergeron's six shots (2 SOG). The Scots next host Hiram College on Sunday at Scotland Yard with a start time of 2:00 p.m.
