The Alma Women's Soccer team hit the road on Saturday for a league game and were on the positive end of a 6-0 decision over Trine University. The victory, the team's third consecutive triumph, improved the Scots' 2008 record to 3-0 in the MIAA and 7-4 overall.
Six different Alma players scored goals and they were evenly distributed with three in the first half and three in the final half. M Kelley Walsh (Linden, MI) opened the scoring with an unassisted tally at the 11:40 mark and M Carly Reising (Ottsego, MI) made the score 2-0 with her own unassisted goal at the 23:24 point of the first half. D Brooke Bergeron (Holly, MI) completed the initial half's scoring with an unassisted tally at the 41:04 mark, Bergeron's first career collegiate goal.
Alma continued its strong play in final frame and M Becky Marton (Williamston, MI) increased the lead to 4-0 on a goal assisted by M Sam Barsotti (Clinton Twp, MI). F Lauren Heines notched her first career collegiate tally at the 68:43 mark of the second half and was assisted by M Britni Patrick (N. Muskegon, MI). M Emily Monahan (Three Rivers, MI) completed the afternoon's scoring with an unassisted goal at 81:10 and the Scots came away with the 6-0 victory.
GK Emma Heppler was the beneficiary of some stellar defensive play and recorded the shut-out, saving the one shot that came her way. Alma next plays on Tuesday, when they travel to Calvin College in an important league tilt. On Thursday, they will host the University of Michigan-Dearborn in a non-league game at Scotland Yard. Start time is schedule for 4:00 p.m.
