SCOTS WOMEN'S SOCCER LOSES 4-2 TO HOPE COLLEGE

The Alma Women's Soccer team, entering today's game in second place, hosted third-place Hope College and dropped a 4-2 decision to the Flying Dutch. The loss dropped the Scots to 6-2 in MIAA play and 12-6 overall, while Hope equaled Alma's league record and wins the tiebreaker for second place.

Even with the gutty loss today, Alma will host a First Round MIAA Playoff Game on Saturday, when they host Olivet College at Scotland Yard. The game is scheduled for a noon start.

On Wednesday, Hope struck first when Sarah Sosolik scored on a goal assisted by Bethany Hamer at the 11:18 mark of the first half. The Flying Dutch made it a 2-0 halftime lead when Courtney Cook took a corner kick and a following pass from Danielle Petzak and Kristen Schwenk, put it past Alma GK Katie Weicksel.

Hope made it 3-0 less than two minutes into the second half, as Sosolik took a pass from Schwenk and hit the back of the net for a goal. However, the Scots did not quit and scored two goals in less than three minutes to make it a 3-2 contest early in the second half.  Becky Marton took a pass from Kelley Walsh and scored a goal at the 48:59 mark of the game.  Sarah Merritt then notched a goal off of a corner kick from Walsh at 52:06 to make the score 3-2.

Hope finished the scoring at 85:19 when Emily Carefoot shot in a rebound off of a Sosolik shot for the final score of 4-2.

Weicksel had five saves for the Scots, while GK Emma Heppler recorded two during her play in the second half. F Tara Fitzsimmons led Alma with three shots (two shots on goal), as Hope outshot the Scots by a final margin of 21-13.
