The Alma Women's Soccer team hosted MIAA rival Kalamazoo College on Wednesday at Scotland Yard and were victorious by a score of 1-0 on a cool, crisp Mid-Michigan afternoon. The win improved the Scots to 6-4 (2-0, MIAA) on the 2008 season, while the Hornets fell to 4-6 (0-1, MIAA).
The only goal of the contest came in the 30th minute when M Becky Marton (Williamston, MI) booted a ball past Kalamazoo GK Taylor Comiskey for the 1-0 margin of victory for the Scots. Ths goal was assisted by F Tara Fitzsimmons (Marshall, MI) and F Kerry Walsh (Linden, MI).
Alma outshot the Hornets by a total of 22-14 and were led by M Carly Reising (Ottsego, MI) with six shots and M Jessica Swan (Romeo, MI), who tallied four shots for the Scots.
Alma GK Katie Weicksel had three saves for the game and GK Emma Heppler added two for a Scots team that gave up just the five shots on goal.
Alma next plays on Saturday, October 4, when they travel to play MIAA foe Trine University, beginning at Noon.
