Alma, Mi.- The Alma College Women's Soccer Team welcomed Rochester College to Scotland Yard and sent them home with a 4-1 loss.
The Scots got on the board first early in the first period when senior Kim Hoeltzel (Clawson/Clawson) found the back of the net off of an assist by freshman Samantha Barsotti (Clinton TWP/Fraser) in the fourth minute. Two minutes later, Rochester scored a goal of their own to tie the score at one. The score remained tied until with less than a minute left in the first period, sophomore Kelly Walsh (Linden/Fenton) received a beautiful pass deep in the zone from junior Christina Wheatley (Canton/Salem) and lobbed a shot over the Rochester goalkeeper to give the Scots the 2-1 lead going into the half.
The second half belonged entirely to the Scots as they added two goals and had several other point blank chances that were just missed. In the 49th minute, Alma added their third goal when freshman Jessica Swan (Romeo/Romeo) beat the Rochester goalkeeper to a ball in the box, two touched it by her, and scored on the empty net. Freshman Brooke Bergeron (Holly/Fenton) was credited with the assist on the play. The final goal of the game came in the 76th minute as sophomore Tara Fitzsimmons (Marshall/Marshall) took a pass from Emily Monahan (Three Rivers/Three Rivers) and beat the goalkeeper to make the score 4-1.
Kate Weicksel (Northville/Northville) and Ivyrose Hess (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids) split time in the goal for the Scots in the win.
