WOMEN'S SOCCER: Scots Thump The Thunder, Win 8-0

Alma, Mi.- The Scots had just about enough of losing after dropping three close games in a row before coming in to today's game against Tri-State and decided to take their frustrations out on the Thunder. The Scots went to work, scoring eight goals while holding the Thunder to only two shots in a dominating 8-0 win.

The Scots scored their first goal of the onslaught in the 8th minute when freshman Jessica Swan (Romeo/Romeo) found the back of the net off of an assist from Tara Fitzsimmons (Marshall/Marshall). Swan added a second goal later in the game, assisted by Kelly Walsh(Linden/Fenton), and has a remarkable 15 goals after her first 13 games for the Scots.

Veronica Femminineo (Troy/Bishop Foley) and Samantha Barsotti (Clinton TWP/Frasier) each added goals in the first half and a TSU mistake, scoring a goal on their own end, gave the Scots the 4-0 lead at the end of the first period.

The second half was more of the same as Swan, Kim Hoetzel (Clawson/Clawson), Angela Szatkowski (North Muskegon/North Muskegon), and Geri Gaskell (Greenbush/Oscoda) all took part in the scoring spree to give the Scots the 8-0 win.

Twelve Scots got into the scoring action today. Besides those mentioned above, Christina Wheatley (Canton/Salem), Katie Boss (East Lansing/East Lansing), Megan Irwin (Berkley/Berkley), and Emily Monahan (Three Rivers/Three Rivers) all added assists in the game.

The win was just what the Scots needed after a tough week of action. Alma returns to play on Wednesday Oct. 10, as they host Calvin College at Scotland Yard. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
